Advanced Stamp Duty 

Stamp duty (duty imposed under the Duties Act 2000 (Vic) is a form of tax that has very wide application to commercial transactions. Often, parties and their advisors do not, or do not adequately consider the potential duty implications of these transactions, exposing the client and themselves to risks and claims. 

There are many areas of the Duties Act 2000 (Vic) that require careful consideration. This seminar will focus on duty imposed under the general provisions of the Duties Act – more specifically some of the exemptions such as the trusts regime. It will also focus on liability to duty that arise on dealings with entities that own land – that is the landholder rules contained in chapter 3. 

This is a technical seminar that will take the participants through the statutory maze in depth and consider their application to various transactions.
