Major reforms are on the way for the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). As more and more Australians transact and interact online, the new updates propose to address the increasing instances of online anti-social behavior. The proposed updates will introduce new avenues for individuals aggrieved by a breach of their personal information or privacy expectations, as well as establishing a new code to provide additional online privacy protection for children.

This session will discuss all the biggest changes from the proposed reforms and the extent of their impact, with particular focus on:

  • The creation of a new statutory tort for serious invasion of privacy and what constitutes intruding upon another’s seclusion
  • A new criminal offence of doxxing
  • New Penalties for serious, repeated or cumulative interferences with the privacy of an individual
  • New transparency requirements in the handling of personal information.

Attend this seminar so you can advise your clients on how they can prepare for the critical changes ahead.
