Employment Law in 2024 is undergoing a significant cascade of legislative amendments under the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Closing Loopholes No.2) Act 2024.

The session will discuss the many updates commencing later this year and heading into 2025 including:

  • Changing the definition of ‘casual employee’ and the ability for certain casual employees to elect to be permanent
  • A new statutory definition of ‘employment’ in response to recent High Court decisions
  • The ‘Right to disconnect’, allowing employees to disengage after hours
  • Changes to the rights and protections of workplace delegates
  • The upcoming framework to give ‘employee-like’ rights to road transport and gig economy workers.

This session will also recap the employment law updates introduced earlier this year and how they continue to challenge employers and employment lawyers, including:

  • Intractable bargaining agreements
  • Stronger penalties for wage theft
  • Sham contracting and the modification of the defence available to employers.

Don’t risk falling behind the ongoing stream of employment law changes that will continue to effect your clients.
