As the property landscape in Victoria continues to evolve rapidly, it's critical for practitioners to stay informed and ready to advise clients confidently. This seminar will discuss the key changes in Victorian property law in 2025, offering practical insights and compliance tips.

This session will discuss:

  • Residential Tenancy Reforms (March 2025) - Amendments to the Residential Tenancies Act, including bans on rental bidding, extended notice periods, and stricter obligations on landlords and agents - Consumer and Planning Legislation Amendment (Housing Statement Reform) Act 2025
  • New Minimum Rental Property Standards (October 2025): Upgraded health, safety, and sustainability requirements for rental properties, such as star-rated cooling systems and energy-efficient fittings.
  • Townhouse Development Planning Reform: Key planning system changes aimed at accelerating townhouse construction, including permit exemptions for dual occupancies and streamlined subdivision approvals.
  • Building Legislation Amendment (Buyer Protections) Bill 2025: Enhanced buyer protections for residential buildings, changes to domestic disputes, insurance and registration, and the commencement of the Building and Plumbing Commission.
  • Expansion of the Vacant Residential Land Tax (VLRT): Update on the expanded scope of the VLRT and its implications for landowners across the state with further changes taking effect in 2026.

This session will provide practical guidance when advising clients of the recent property law reforms while ensuring compliance, managing risk, and identifying new development opportunities.
